About coaching

Coaching is a structured conversation in which the dialogue jointly explores the issues that you have identified.


Through the conversation you will be encouraged in your own self-reflection, helping you to develop a robust self-awareness. You will be encouraged to draw on your own resources so that you find, and own, the ways to address your challenges.


This kind of coaching is about facilitation and empowerment. It’s not about instruction or recommendation. If you want someone simply to tell you what to do, please don’t read any further.  I don’t offer that.

What I offer

I use a variety of methods and models in an empathetic way – listening, reflecting back and helping you to focus on the issue you have chosen to explore, so that you can consider the ways in which you can use your own resources to address the challenge or to make a difference.

It’s all about finding ways to make the best use of your capacity and capability and keeping you in control.

Although I will work with established models and approaches, there is no pre-determined way in which sessions will take place. As we go through a session, I will explain what I am trying to do and each session will include time at the end for feedback and reflection.
Through a limited number of sessions, I will help you to:

▷ Define the issue challenging you and what you want to do about it
▷ Think as realistically as possible about the issue you have identified
▷ Devise and consider different courses of action
▷ Commit to the action that you decide to take.

I work on the principle that the answers that you discover yourself are going to be more effective than those that might be handed to you on a plate.  We all build resilience by finding the answers to our various challenges ourselves.

Successful life at work or in our other lives, tends to be an ongoing process of discovery and learning how to deal with new situations.  As you make your own progress on one obstacle, you strengthen your ability to tackle the next challenge.and you are less likely to be worn down.

This type of coaching  does not seek to be a long-term relationship.  This is not mentoring. This is about empowering you, not making you dependent. I will facilitate a way forward for you in a limited number of sessions. 

How will we work ?

We will meet in confidence over a Teams/Zoom link.

An initial conversation will start to explore the problem you have identified and will establish a few key themes to consider before the coaching starts in earnest.  These sessions will take place over a period of time that fits in with the actions you are taking to achieve your goal.

 

My commitment on confidentiality

Any conversation will be between you and me and no-one else.  If your employer is sponsoring the coaching, I would expect any feedback from the session to your manager to be given by you. This will all be clearly set out in the contract agreed before any coaching starts.
