My approach is mainly through the power of conversation. Together we will develop a dialogue that jointly explores the issues and ambitions that you have identified.
Whilst I may start to explore with you the systems with which you interact, the connections and sometimes the things that need unraveling. My firm belief is that the way forward is within yourself.
Through our conversations, you will be encouraged in your own self-reflection, helping you to develop a robust self-awareness. Most importantly, you will be encouraged to draw on your own strengths and resources so that you find, and own, the ways to address your challenges.
My approach is about facilitation and empowerment. It’s not about instruction or recommendation. I may, however, in agreement with you, provide some activities or resources to look at in between our sessions. It’s all about finding ways to make the best use of your capacity and capability and keeping you in control. You can read a bit more about I am coming from on this tab.
What I offer
I use a variety of methods and models in an empathetic way – listening, reflecting back and helping you to focus on the issue you have chosen to explore. But I will also be quite challenging. You may not always find the conversations easy.
Although my approach will tend to start with a conversation about your context and the systems that affect you, there is no pre-determined way in which sessions will take place. Typically sessions may help you to:
▷ Refine the issue challenging you and your ambitions for this.
▷ Think as realistically as possible about the issue you have identified
▷ Devise and consider different courses of action in the light of the system you are within
▷ Commit to the action that you decide to take.
As we go through a session, I will explain what I am trying to do and each session will include time at the end for feedback and reflection
.I work on the principle that the answers that you discover yourself are going to be more effective than those that might be handed to you on a plate. We all build resilience by finding the answers to our various challenges ourselves.
Successful life at work or in our other lives, tends to be an ongoing process of discovery and learning how to deal with new situations. As you make your own progress on one obstacle, you strengthen your ability to tackle the next challenge and you are less likely to be worn down.
How are conversations organised?
We will meet in confidence over a Teams/Zoom link or if you live within the Stroud area and prefer, we can find a safe space to meet face-to-face.
An initial conversation will start to explore the problem you have identified and will establish a few key themes to consider before the coaching starts in earnest. These sessions will take place over a period of time that fits in with the actions you are taking to achieve your goal.
My commitment on confidentiality
Any conversation will be between you and me and no-one else. If your employer is sponsoring the coaching, I would expect any feedback from the session to your manager to be given by you. This will all be clearly set out in a formal agreement.
